The Dual Degree Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Aviation Management programme, a collaboration between the Poland University of Information Technology and Management (UITM) and the Swiss Institute of Management and Innovation (SIMI). Doctor of Philosophy in Aviation Management is the highest scientific, academic degree in aviation management research.

The Dual Degree Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Aviation Management with 17 majors program focuses on knowledge-intensive research in aviation management. It has 3 stages (1) the stage of learning research methods and forming the doctoral thesis (2) the stage of publishing international articles (ISI/SCOPUS) and (3) the stage of defending the doctoral thesis.

Through the process of learning and research, learners are not only knowledgeable research capacity (a mandatory competency at the doctor level), but also developed strong knowledge, depth in the aerospace industry, as a foundation for in-depth research and teaching in each industry and becoming the leading specialist in the aerospace industry.

It is a combination programme between the application-oriented doctoral training system Doctor of Aviation Management from the No. 1 University of Poland UITM (which is one of only 4 universities in Europe have aviation industry) and the in-depth research system.  Doctor of Philosophy in Aviation Management from Swiss Institute of Management and Innovation (SIMI), the programme targets research in-depth to form a new theory applicable to industries and sectors that the learner is studying or teaching.

To graduate, in addition to the Doctor thesis, learners must publish at least 1 international scientific article on ISI or SCOPUS journals. The process of forming graduate thesis and scientific articles will be supported by professors.

Upon graduation, fellows will contemporaneously receive 2 Doctoral degrees:

  • Doctor of Aviation Management at UITM Poland University. UITM is Poland’s first-class University according to Europe’s most prestigious rating system U-MultiRank.
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Aviation Management from Swiss Institute of Management and Innovation (SIMI).

SIMI Switzerland is the first Higher Education Provider in Switzerland that can train aviation up to a PhD

Graduating from the dual degree Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in aviation management programme, the learner could:

  • Developing dialectical thinking, in-depth research competencies, and specialised knowledge for each business environment (through specialised management disciplines at the doctoral level).
  • Understanding how to apply findings from research into your organisation and industry.
  • Understanding how to refine and form new theoretical and applied bases to lecturers if research learners are lecturers.
  • Understanding the scientific research method as the foundation to form the research for your organisation and industry.
  • Published scientific articles in ISI / SCOPUS journals.

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Aviation Management programme consists of 180 credits. To complete, the learners undergo 3 courses and 6 Scientific Colloquiums at Doctor Level, complete and defend a doctoral thesis and have a minimum of one international scientific paper. The programme lasts a minimum of 3 years, up to a maximum of 5 years.

Duration and Learning method:

  • The programme takes a minimum period of 3 years and up to 5 years.
  • The Dual degree Doctoral in Aviation Management with 17 majors is designed to be studied full-time in Switzerland or
  • Hybrid Learning model with local partners at SIMI’s international campuses

There is no standard for the difference between a full-time study programme in Switzerland and study at SIMI’s Asian campuses.

Assessment and Verification:

  • All modules and doctoral dissertation of the dual degree Doctor of Philosophy in Aviation Management programme are assessed by SIMI and the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation UK. Learners must demonstrate mastery of knowledge and attainment of competencies described in detail in the programme’s Syllabus.

Upon graduation, fellows will contemporaneously receive 2 Doctoral degrees:

(1) Doctor of Aviation Management from UITM Poland

(2) Doctor of Philosophy in Aviation Management from Swiss Institute of Management and Innovation (SIMI)

Entry requirements

To enrol the Dual degree Doctor of Philosophy in Aviation Management, the learner must possess:

  • Graduated with a Master’s degree from an accredited university or achieved a Level 7 Diploma according to the European Qualifications
  • For a degree from non-recognized universities; The learner should have followed the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)policy of SIMI.
  • Learners must be over 24 years old.

SIMI reserves the highest decision-making power for admission whether to accept or not accept after a specific review of each candidate’s profile to ensure that they can comprehend and gain benefits when participating.

For the fake university or the diploma mills, SIMI shall not be accepted.

English requirements

If a learner is not from a predominantly English speaking country, proof of English language proficiency must be provided.

  • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2 or equivalent
  • Or A minimum TOEFL score of 101 or IELTS 6.5; Reading and Writing must be at 6.5 or equivalent

UITM (University of Information Technology and Management) is a Poland university, recognised by:

  • Accredited by the Poland Ministry of Education for international programmes: Based on the national university training license number 81 issued by the Poland Ministry of Science and Training, as well as the quality accreditation of the Polish Quality Assurance Commission, UITM has full authority of a University to officially train from Cycle 1 (Bachelor) to Cycle 3 (Doctor). The Doctor of Aviation Management degree is the career-oriented application (Professional Doctoral) degree, an international degree system issued by UITM and managed by the Center of Graduate Studies and Lifelong Learning of UITM.

Besides the Doctor of Aviation Management degree from UITM Poland, after graduation, the learner receives a Doctor of Philosophy in Aviation Administration from SIMI Switzerland with full accreditation at both the Institution and Programmatic Level.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Aviation Management from SIMI Switzerland achieved Cycle 3 under the Swiss education system, achieved Level 8 (Doctor) under the European Qualification Framework (EQF), and reached the Doctorate level under the European Higher Education Provider
