A doctoral program will be comprehensive if it combines both the practical knowledge from Professional Doctorate program and academic research capabilities from Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program. Moreover, doctoral students are required to be recognized their research within the scientific community by publishing articles in prestigious international journals such as those indexed in ISI/SCOPUS.

In partnership with WTO, the DBA-PhD in management dual qualifications with Horizons University is the rare Swiss program that meets the above requirements. The program implemented according to the By Research model helps graduate students access research from the beginning with 2 phases (1) learning research subjects to orient research and know scientific research methods and (1) the phase of learning research subjects to orient research and know scientific research methods and ( 2) phase of research and formation of a career-oriented applied PhD thesis with the guidance of instructors.

Through the in-depth research process, students will master research capacity (a required capacity at the PhD level), while expanding their research network and increasing scientific knowledge through associations. Scientific conference organized by SIMI Swiss in collaboration with partner universities. These competencies serve as the foundation for post-graduate students to be able to research and teach in-depth in each industry and field that they are passionate about.

Upon graduation, students will receive: 

  • Doctor of Philosophy in International Business Management from Horizons University;
  • Doctor of Business Administration in Majors from SIMI Swiss.

The program is a collaboration between SIMI Swiss and WTO, allowing students to receive two independent PhD-level degrees upon completion of the program from SIMI Swiss and Horizons University as follows:

  • Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in Majors  from SIMI Swiss.
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in International Business Management from Horizons University, France.

PhD awarded from Horizons University (HU) falls under the University Diplomas system, are granted through a doctoral dissertation defense with its examining committee and subsequent approval by the university’s academic council.

Learning Model:

SIMI programs offer a Fully Online or Hybrid learning model (conditionally applied), allowing students to study with original programs from Switzerland and partner countries. This enables students to achieve qualifications equivalent to those of full-time international students without the need to live in or attend on-site activities. Observing many failures in PhD programs due to unclear research plans and insufficient guidance, SIMI, under its Smart University Strategy, has developed a rigorous and unique support system for researchers. The DBA-PhD in Management Dual Qualifications program, requiring mandatory modules and a PhD Dissertation for total 300 UK credits, last 3 to maximum 5 years. Besides completing the dissertation, candidates are guided to publish papers in ISI/SCOPUS-affiliated journals (optional).

  • Course: Developing Research Capability (60 UK Credits)
  • Activity: Present Research Proposal in the Colloquium
  • Course: Advanced Research Design and Methodologies (60 UK Credits)

Doctor’s Dissertation Stage (120 UK Credits): 

  • Activity: Working with Research Supervisor for Dissertation
  • Activity: Present the research result in Colloquium
  • Activity: Defend the Dissertation

Graduating from the program, the learner could:

1. Develop research aligned with the context of the Management and Administration research major.

  • Assess the importance, practicality, and research feasibility of the Management and Administration research topic.
  • Develop and adjust the research purpose to align with the direction and research objectives and within the time constraints.
  • Analyze and evaluate various research options, making appropriate choices.

2. Possess the ability to gather, organize, and select relevant theoretical foundations for doctoral research.

  • Compile theoretical foundations related to business and management research.
  • Categorize and form a theoretical structure to serve the scientific management research topic.

3. The ability to design comprehensive research.

  • Review precedent studies and select relevant research to support the intended research.
  • Design research in line with research objectives, research questions, and the research timeframe.
  • Adjust the chosen research methods considering research ethics and feasibility.

4. The capability to formulate a research proposal and the completed research.

  • Formulate research questions and review theoretical foundations and research models.
  • Construct research following international standards by developing a complete doctoral thesis in the selected majors.
  • Present research to the scientific council.
  • Possess the ability to defend and persuade.

Assessment and Confirmation of Academic Results:

All modules and doctoral dissertations in the program, which follows a research-oriented model, undergo evaluation by both SIMI and Horizons University. Learners are required to demonstrate mastery of knowledge and the attainment of competencies as outlined in detail in the program’s syllabus. This rigorous evaluation process ensures that candidates meet the established standards and objectives of the program.

In addition to the entry requirements, candidates applying to the program are also assessed for their suitability by the admissions committee before joining the program to ensure that they can acquire and benefit from the program.

Entry requirements:

To enroll the program , the learner must possess the criteria below:

  • Learners must be over 24 years old;
  • A Master’s qualification in Majors from accredited universities; or
  • A Level 7 EQF diploma or equivalent. Level 7 Diploma must be from organizations that are authorized to issue qualifications and have been accredited.

English requirements:

If a learner is not from a predominantly English-speaking country, proof of English language proficiency must be provided.

  • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2 or equivalent;
  • Or A minimum TOEFL score of 101 or IELTS 6.5; Reading and Writing must be at 6.5 or equivalent.

As part of the Doctoral program, emphasis is placed not only on acquiring knowledge but also on expanding relationships and staying abreast of the latest developments from scientists. This is not only considered a crucial requirement but also a mandatory aspect of the SIMI Swiss Doctoral program.

SIMI Swiss collaborates with partner universities to organize seminars, which are mandatory for students to attend. The program does not award credits but evaluates participants based on must-have activities.

Upon completion of the seminar abroad, students are engaged in Networking activities to establish connections within the academic and professional community.
