Switzerland Is The World’s Most Innovative Country 2020 – 2021
- The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has released its Global Innovation Index 2021.
- The 2021 index has shown that innovation is continuing to expand in some areas despite the global economic downturn and the COVID19 pandemic.
- Switzerland topped the ranking with a score of 65.5 out of 100, the 11th time the country has been named a world leader in innovation.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has released the Global Innovation Index 2021. It is an indicator that assesses innovation in 130 economies based on a variety of factors like human capital, institutions, technology, creative output, market and business efficiency, and so on. Despite the global economic stagnation caused by the COVID19 pandemic, the 2021 index revealed that creativity and innovation are still booming in several sectors, particularly in companies related to public health and the environment.
With a score of 65.5 out of 100, Switzerland topped the rankings for the 11th time, earning the title of the world leader in innovation. The second-place runner is Sweden, while the third-place runner is the United States.
South Korea is one of the countries that has risen the most in the rankings, from 10th in 2020 to 5th in 2021. China has risen from 14th in 2020 and 2019, and 17th in 2018, to become the world’s 12th most innovative country. China was also voted the most innovative middle-income country, ahead of Bulgaria (35 overall), and Vietnam has been designated the most innovative low-income country (overall). In the lower-middle-income countries, 44) comes in front, followed by India (46th overall).
Zug, the city in Switzerland with the highest innovation score, made a significant contribution to this achievement. The Swiss Institute of Management and Innovation (SIMI) takes pride in being Zug’s first Undergraduate and Postgraduate Institute.
